The Doctrine of Ethics

This Doctrine of Ethics is for the Parents who wish to guide their children.

The Doctrine exists since ancient times in India. It is now given in English for the Parents in the West.

May it serve its purpose, for it is called forth, by the parents, for the children in the West.

- 1 -

By the grace of the Divine

I express the simple ethics

in a flow that

inspires the listeners.

- 2 -

Abandon at once

the relative that responds

not in need,

the horse that moves

not in war, and

the Deity that helps

not when prayed

- 3 -

It is wiser

to be self-employed, than

to be employed by a miser

- 4 -

Do not :

Serve the avarice,

cultivate friendship

with the wicked,

move lonely in forest,

manage 'temple'

with selfishness.

- 5 -

Do not :

Associate with persons

that speak not pleasant, and

speak the trivials.

- 6 -

Expensive living,

young spouse in old age,

improper meditation

invite calamities.

- 7 -

Reside not :

in a place devoid of

a healer, a financier,

a teacher and

a flowing river.

- 8 -

Expect not :

understanding son-in-law,

poetry from the ignorant,

white crows and

good seeds from bad grains.

- 9 -

Food is God for the Hungry.

Donor is God for the Needy.

Forbearance is God in Man.

Love is God in The Master.

- 10 -

Indigestion

Dirt in Drinking Water,

Lust for pregnant woman

and Goat milk

are deeply disgusting.

- 11-

The tongue that does not :

Utter words of good will,

invoke light and

express brotherliness

is no better than leather.

- 12 -

Meaningful life

is preferable to long life.

- 13 -

Good results do not

follow bad means.

Gold does not result

from melting brass.

- 14-

Approach not :

The horse that is drinking water,

The elephant that is ferocious,

The bull charging towards the cow

and The man that is ignorant.

- 15 -

To help a helper

is mediocrity

To help a non-helper

is Divinity.

- 16 -

Tasty food can be sickly

in the long run.

Hasty friendship can be prickly

in due course.

- 17 -

The skilful one accommodates

the other's view point

and wins friends

in the world.

- 18 -

Do not associate with

Men of ill will.

It's like living under

the shade of the serpent.

- 19 -

Power and money

attract people.

The water in the lake

attracts frogs.

Realize the unfriendly.

- 20 -

Select not unripe fruits.

Ridicule not the relatives.

Retreat not from crises.

Transgress not the commandments

of the Teacher.

- 21 -

A teacher and a ruler

are good enough for a place.

Multiplicity causes confusion.

- 22 -

To hold on to

unfriendly persons,

unmating spouse,

and an unwilling ruler

is utter ignorance.

- 23 -

Fortunes lead to

misfortunes.

Misfortunes lead to

fortunes.

Realize that life is a

swing eternal.

- 24 -

Let not your spouse

lonely for long durations.

It leads to 'letting out'!

- 25 -

A fox remains a fox

Even when placed on

a golden throne.

But a lion is leonine

even in adversities.

Distinguish the cunning

and the Noble

amidst men.

- 26 -

The legless frog,

the sickly serpent,

the immoral matrimony

and the old in poverty

suffer unending misery.

- 27 -

The lotus displaced

from waters

suffers from the

friendly sunray.

The friendliness

too leads to enmity

when limits are transgressed.

- 28 -

Share not your secrets

with a co-professional.

It leads to your fall.

- 29 -

The wheel moves not

when the axle is broken.

Life moves not

when the Law is broken.

- 30 -

The soft administrator,

the prideless elephant,

the biteless snake and

the stingless scorpion

are slighted in the world.

- 31 -

Just ripe fruits and

just matured ladies

deserve admiration

from a distance.

- 32 -

The poetry of

the unimaginative,

the passions of

the inhibitive,

the failing archery of

the hunter

are wasteful vanities.

- 33 -

Evil association

is prohibitive,

social reputation

is exhibitive,

lending money

is selective,

ladies' admiration

is relative.

- 34 -

Purposeless laughter,

expressionless dance,

juiceless mango and

a marriage without orchestra

are lifeless things.

- 35 -

The Lady is the

"Lux" of the house.

Cause not sorrow to her.

Fight not with her.

Impute not insults on her.

- 36 -

Love and friendship

overlook mistakes.

suspicion and malice

invent mistakes.

- 37 -

A bug in the bed

puts the whole bed

to treatment.

An association

with the wicked

puts the whole character

to punishment.

- 38 -

The pest in cane sugar

destroys the sweetness.

The pest in the progeny

destroys the sweetness of life.

- 39 -

The faith of

the fickle minded,

the friendship of

the serpent,

the sweetness of

the cane

and the realibility of

the kings

are mythical !

- 40 -

The accomplished husband

is the source of admiration.

The unaccomplished one is

admonished as

a mobile tomb !

- 41 -

Brood not over spilt milk,

think not over past deeds,

neglect not the present

and look not into the future !

- 42 -

Speak not excessively.

Confide not in the talkative.

Heed not to advice unasked.

Reveal not the personal virtue.

- 43 -

Aspire not for love.

Inspire not the dead.

Perspire not for the unworthy.

Conspire not with the gullible.

- 44 -

Ants toil to build houses

for snakes to live in.

fools toil to build houses

for the clever to live in !

- 45 -

Course not to accumulate

gold and riches.

In due course

they reach the kingly treasure.

- 46 -

Riches attract self-defined

relatives and friends.

Riches are the ditches

for the non-alert to fall !

- 47 -

Donation is the armour

for the hand.

Truth is the armour

for the king.

Ethics is the armour

for all and

Character is the

armour for woman.

- 48 -

The lazy, the hasty

and the impatient

agitate to spoil.

The active, the poised

and the patient one

retrieve even

the spoilt deed !

- 49 -

Irritation and anger

are the enemies to oneself.

Self-poise is the

self-protection

in all ways.

- 50 -

Compassion is the friend,

self-joy is the heaven

and self-pity is the hell.

These are commandments.

- 51 -

The acts of Good will,

the accomplishments

of the son,

the beauty of one's wife

are not for public

aggrandisement.

- 52 -

Riches are heavenly,

poverty is hell

and calamity is death

for the worldly.

- 53 -

Friends, affection and

fertile fields decide the

abode of life.

- 54 -

The mouth that chews

not Pan

the person that mourns

not at faults

the lake devoid of lotuses

and the night

without the moon

are deplorable.

- 55 -

Poison posits only

in the head of the snake,

in the tail of the scorpion

and in man, it

permeates from head to foot !

- 56 -

The foolish rely on

the promises of the Prostitute.

- 57 -

Love based on

physical, emotional and

mental features is human.

Baseless love is Divine !

- 58 -

The busy bee accumulates

for the honey gatherer.

Busy man accumulates

for the tax gatherer.

- 59 -

The king that relies

on hear-say

and judges,

would soon lose

the counsel of

the wise and fall.

- 60 -

The uninhibited service

to the wise leads to

inexplicable inner harmony

and outer splendour in life.

- 61 -

The help rendered to the wise

gathers hidden fortunes,

like the coconut that gathers

nourishing waters in secrecy.

- 62 -

Walk not the path lonely,

eat not at enemy's house,

usurp not others' wealth,

speak not hurting words.

- 63 -

Believe not the tax collector,

the gambler, the goldsmith,

the prostitute, the barber and

the left-handed persons.

They are unpredictable.

- 64 -

Soft words of wisdom

are not heeded to

by the ruffians.

Fear only moulds

them to follow.

- 65 -

Fear is the medicine

to the lazy.

Ambition is the medicine

to the active.

Wisdom is the medicine

to the poised.

- 66 -

Danger awaits when :

The king trespasses the law,

the widow guides a family

and the administrator turns

to priesthood.

- 67 -

Laugh not in the court,

at the parents and the priests.

Laugh not with strangers,

laugh not at the Teacher !

- 68 -

Hate not anyone,

sink not with calamities,

condemn not at meetings,

lose not your heart to women.

- 69 -

Approach not

the spouse, the king,

the Teacher,

the Deity and the son

with empty hands.

- 70 -

Neglect not your lady.

She is a mother when feeds,

a servant when serves,

a counsellor when advises

and a damsel while at bed !

- 71 -

Aspire not for others'

wealth and woman,

fall not to flattery,

sink not to criticism.

- 72 -

Look not to bed

with other's lady.

Manipulate not for self-profit.

Find not fault with others.

Discuss not with inequals.

Shelter not with a relative

while in poverty !

- 73 -

Man living amidst ladies,

woman living amidst men,

are prone for scandal.

Even the wise are

no exception.

- 74 -

Tolerate not the progeny

that lie,

the spouse infatuated

of another,

the servant that knows

no fear,

and the family that is

too demanding.

- 75 -

Mate not on auspicious days.

Depend not on

the king's grace.

Foster not the spouse's pride.

Live not at an unholy place.

- 76 -

The selfish in

the priestly robes

is recognizable

like the water

mixed in milk.

Be not callous

in discrimination.

- 77 -

Help not the wicked

in calamity;

Does not the scorpion

helped out of

the fire sting back ?

- 78 -

Attend not other's work.

Invite not yourself

to functions.

Proceed not with

the unfriendly.

Aspire not for a lady that

loves you not.

- 79 -

The merchant is the life

of the village

Water is the life

for the paddy field.

The trunk is the life

for the elephant.

The woman is the life

for splendour.

- 80 -

Rejoice not as father

at the birth of the son.

Joy is verily yours when

the son is socially honoured.

- 81 -

You may procure

tiger's milk,

pluck out and donate

your heart,

dedicate your total wealth,

yet the stupid is pleased not.

- 82 -

Your acts of good will

nourish during the

days of misfortune.

Your acts of evil help not

even while you are

in fortunes.

- 83 -

Hoard not energy in terms of gold and money.

Seek not favours at shops.

Develop not friendship with the lowly.

Eat not unholy food.

- 84 -

Cooperation is strength, Collectivity is fortification.

Does not the lonely elephant fall prey to the lion?

- 85 -

A king without an adviser

is akin to the elephant

1without a trunk.

- 86 -

A president without a cabinet

is ineffective

like the wheel without the hub.

- 87 -

The life for the word is truth.

The life for the fort

is the soldier.

The life for the man

is character.

The life for the letter

is the writing.

- 88 -

Seek not shelter

under the mean.

Can an elephant

cool the body

in a water tub?

- 89 -

Work not to confirm untruth.

Ridicule not your

well wisher.

Serve not the angry.

Move not in unholy places.

- 90 -

The wise is stronger

than the mere strong ones.

Is not the elephant manned

by the intelligent Mahout.

- 91 -

Approach not relatives

In adversities.

Yield not personal secrets

For value.

Appoint not the timid

As the army general.

Cultivate not marshy land.

- 92 -

The village

without cultivable fields,

without an administrator

and without an adviser

and the house

without the master

are verily graveyards !

- 93 -

Listen with patience.

Analyse without haste.

Comprehend the truth

and the myth.

And conduct

in the world !

- 94 -

The Riches,

The Gold,

The Power,

The Lust,

The Drugs/alcohol

are the Masters

of KALI.

- 95 -

The education that

leads not to splendour.

The dramatic action that

magnetizes not the viewers,

The meetings that

promote not thoughts.

The oratory that

inspires not

are bland in taste.

- 96 -

Excessive attachment

culminates in detachment.

Excessive splendour

results in calamity.

Excessive growth

leads to fall.

- 97 -

The ungrateful, the stupid,

the selfish, the malicious,

the avaricious, the aggressive

invite their own fall.

- 98 -

The riches bulge

like the water in the coconut.

The riches disappear too

as the evaporation of ice.

May the intelligent

rely on virtues

but not on riches.

- 99 -

Argue not with ladies.

Befriend not the childish.

Abandon not the virtue.

Criticize not the superior.

- 100 -

Smiling is Health.

Healing is Love.

Feeling is Glamour.

Sharing is Wisdom.
