Fundamentals for a Physician
1
The First and foremost duty of the Physician is to restore health to the patient. This is called Healing.
Explanation:
It is established here that treatment is to be given only to the patient and not to the disease, treatment to the patient means only to follow the method of restoring health but not try to remove the disease. Health is a state of clear-cut harmony between body and soul. That is the natural state. Any change in that state is called a disease, but there is no entity separately for a disease. As such, medicines should not be used for stomach-pain, headache etc., which are only the results of a disease. Medicines are only to set right the deranged state in the body of the patient and to bring normalcy but not to remove disease. Once a change takes place in the original state of health, the disease symptoms would automatically disappear.
Medicines should not be used for typhoid, diabetes, heart-disease etc., following those specific names. People having these sufferings will have some special symptoms. Totality of these symptoms is to be compiled without caring for the names of disease. This will be found in the shape of individual special traits in each person, but not in the shape of diseases. This totality of symptoms represents the real disease, which is only a state of the person but no special entity in the body. If this can be correctly analysed, a drug based on the totality of symptoms similar to the disease is available in the Materia Medica. If that drug is used in suitable potency, the totality of symptoms would disappear and health is restored. All the sufferings would then disappear. In this context, one should understand the difference between Allopathy and Homoeopathy.
- In Allopathy, the Doctor selects a drug. But in Homoeopathy the patient (totality of the symptoms of the patient) indicates the drug.
- In Allopathy, different drugs are used for different diseases. It often happens that number of drugs are used simultaneously. In Homoeopathy, a single drug is used suitable to the totality of symptoms. Drug is changed only when there is a change in the totality of symptoms. There is nothing like using two or more drugs simultaneously or using mixtures, tonics, injections etc.
- No surgical treatment is needed for those who are in Homoeopathic treatment since their childhood. Surgery is needed only for those who could not get suitable treatment on account of which the disease advances and goes beyond the stage of oral treatment. Really speaking, surgery belongs neither to Allopathy nor Homoeopathy. It is a part of supplementary aids.
- In Homoeopathy, when the first dose improves the condition, second dose need not be used. The moment sufferings are cured, the treatment should be stopped.
- External injuries, burns etc., are not diseases. External applications are not allowed in Homoeopathy except in cases of external injuries.
2
Ideal treatment consists in quick, gentle and permanent cure of the suffering of the patient, in an easily explainable way.
Explanation:
Quickness:
In cases of scorpion sting, snakebite, food-poisoning, electric shock etc. the medicine should save the patient in minutes and seconds. In cases like cholera, the medicine should work in minutes, fevers should be reverted in a few hours or days. Fevers like typhoid etc. should be cured in a week's time. If the treatment is unscientific fit the case is mixed up or complicated, it may take a few weeks. Treatment for chronic diseases like Asthma, T.B., etc., may take a few months or years. Some people feel that homoeopathic medicines work slowly and are not useful in acute and serious diseases to cure immediately. It is not correct. The speed of the drug depends on the speed of the disease. Alternatively, the drug works in the same speed commensurate with the speed of the disease.
Gentle:
This means surgery, burning, removing the warts, tonsils etc., by application of chemicals, squeezing blood and pus by mechanical means, application of leeches for squeezing the blood etc., are not allowed. They are out-moded and increase suffering. There are also other methods like scorching with cashew seed, biopsy examination, X-ray, treatment with radium, cobalt, ultraviolet, infra red rays etc. which are treacherous in nature. The same is the case of giving electric shock to mental patients. These beastly methods not only diminish the vitality but also cause damage to the constitution and thereafter no medicine would work.
Permanent:
Headache is relieved by using Aspro. But comes again. If Magnesium Sulph is used, the stomach is cleared by a free motion. But constipation remains. Malaria fever is suppressed by quinine but repeats again. In this way, if drugs are used again and again the disease advances. In the meantime as a result of the frequent usage of drugs, new diseases crop up. This is not the method of cure. Homoeopathy does not accept such a method.
Easily explainable way:
One should be able to explain how he examined the patient and be in a position to elucidate the way in which he could decide a drug. Pathological examination of blood, urine, stool etc., is only an effort made in a scientific way to name a disease, but does not lead to removal of the suffering or cure the disease. Analysis of sugar, sperm, pus cells etc., would only indicate a technical diagnosis of a disease and are useful only to increase the fame and name of the physician but cannot remove the suffering of the patient.
