Wisdom for practice

Wisdom is for practice, not for continuous speaking. If we keep on speaking about the Masters, the Rays, and the Hierarchies, we are only missing our duties for the present.

Wisdom is applied knowledge

Knowledge, when applied becomes wisdom. We gain a lot of knowledge, but it has to be applied in daily life, then it transforms itself into wisdom. Through wisdom we will experience the existence.

Wisdom spreads itself

We need not be anxious to spread the wisdom without working it with ourselves. It is a wrong understanding if one thinks that he can spread wisdom. Wisdom knows how to spread itself. It only needs channels.

Gemini

Part 1

Centre and Circumference

„The number is the cornerstone of creation”, Pythagoras says. Numbers are not man-made symbols and ideas, but potencies existing already before him in nature. The ancient seers considered the numbers as creative forces existing as qualities of space and structuring creation. Number 1 is regarded as the principle of I AM, as central point of the circle, whose circumference is the horizon of our consciousness. The ratio between circumference and radius is a constant numerical quantity called ? (Pi). Pi represents the emerging of the divine Word permeating the entire creation as consciousness. In times of old Pi was worshipped as Pymander, the Great Geometer of the universe effusing his blessing over mankind in form of knowledge and wisdom. His symbol are the two legs of the pair of compasses: while one leg stands firmly established in the centre, the other moves along the circumference. Its message is to keep established in existence while moving along in objectivity.

The sign of Pi resembles that of Gemini (♊), only the lower horizontal line has disappeared. The two vertical lines represent the vertical position of man standing on the earth. The horizontal line below stands for the earth under his feet, the one above represents his view of the Heaven. The biblical tradition says that the emperor Seth erected two pillars with an arch over them and engraved the timeless wisdom in it. The arch is so high that the engraved wisdom survives even the floods coming over the earth from time to time. It is said that all the timeless wisdom man should inherit was engraved upon the physical frame of man - in number, shape, sound, colour and proportion - and that it reveals itself to us when we have risen above the flood of emotions and conflicting personality forces.

The constellation of the twin stars Castor and Pollux points to the mortal and immortal in man: Castor was regarded as mortal, his brother Pollux as immortal. The star Castor is waning in brilliancy, whereas Pollux is increasing in radiance and so reminding us of the words of John the Baptist about Christ: „He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John III, 30)

Speaking, Thinking, Breathing

The ruler of Gemini is Mercury, the messenger and mediator. He rules over speech and the throat centre, which is particularly related to the human kingdom. The way we speak shows who we are: Is our speech judging and critical or inspiring and magnetic? With the help of sounds speaking and thinking can be purified and thus the throat centre transformed. This transformation of the unsteady mind is also called the stabilisation of Mercury or the alchemical transformation of mercury into gold. The colour for the healing work of this transformation is light green or aquamarine.

We breathe and speak through the throat. Thought and breath are twins. If the mind is observantly turned to the respiration, its over-activity slowly decreases and also the breathing becomes calmer. If we regularly practise this morning and evening, we experience how breath and thought settle into the pulsation, which is the source of both.

In the physical body the airy sign of Gemini rules over shoulders, bronchi and the vocal chords. In the vital body it governs the function of pulsation, on the mental plane the thoughts expressed through the word. The pure experience, received as unity, gets divided on the mental plane and duality arises. Then we distinguish between good and bad, the higher and the lower, between darkness and light. In the solar year Gemini divides the vibration of the life impulse newly emerged in Aries and concretised in Taurus into two diverging directions and thus brings duality into the drama of the cycle of development.

Duality and Synthesis

The Gemini-type can well understand the different aspects of problems or the personality traits of people. With decisions he tends to hesitate and vacillate. Since he doubts the perfection of other people, he prefers doing things himself. Though he likes helping others, he doubts at the same time if they can make right use of his help and gifts. The Gemini must learn to be decisive by choosing the side which is more right and letting go of the other; and not to suggest something when it is not required.

In the horoscope Gemini indicates the relation to brothers and sisters, with the ordinary person the differences between brothers, different views and opinions and the problems resulting thereof. When we live in duality, there are always confrontations, discussions and misunderstandings. Even in ourselves conflicts arise, when two thoughts do not agree with each other. In our being we are twin brothers, for soul and personality are interwoven within ourselves. If we regard things from the soul, we can find out the connecting bond and integrate the different perspectives. Then we do no longer suffer from conflicts and can harmonise people with different mentalities and temperaments.

Light cannot exist without its shadow; full moon is followed by new moon; good will shines forth on the background of the non-good. We have to anchor ourselves in the energy of Synthesis to realise that the pairs of opposites have their source in the same principle. In Synthesis there are no opposites. We are one consciousness expressing itself as many different units of consciousness. The fundamental rule for the spiritually striving person therefore is: „See in the other the brother.” This exercise has to be practised regardless of the behaviour and the qualities of the other. There may be differences in opinions and judgements, which however should be recognised as superficial, while the undertone of sincerity remains. Learn to be sincere, even if you disagree. This will let Light and Love flow better. If the principle of Gemini is deeply understood, then brotherhood will be lived. Universal brotherhood is the reality of creation. „Let thought about the existence of the Brotherhood help to open hearts.” (Supermundane, § 8)

Part 2

Unity and Duality

Everything in creation has its own purpose and utility, there is nothing, which is useless and superfluous. A deep spiritual truth says: “Anything we neglect neglects us. Anything we negate negates us.” That which we neglect today, we shall have to attend tomorrow. That which we ignore today, we shall have to recognize tomorrow. If any single member in a group is rejected or neglected, to that extent there is no synthesis. Synthesis means including every possibility as it approaches us.

When we are in synthesis, there is no opposite. An opposite is seen as another dimension of the same concept. When we are able to include the points of view of others, we don’t suffer from conflicts. If unity is forgotten, duality brings in conflicts and there are arising discussions, confrontations and misunderstandings. Conflicts can also exist in our own being, when there are two thoughts at the same time and seem to disagree. In creation everything exists with both sides: There is war and peace, in the outer as well as in the inner. Because of our limited understanding we speak bitterly of war and yearn for peace. Just as there is abundance in the world, there is also poverty. Just as there is place for knowledge, there is also place for ignorance. With anything you speak about, its shadow also manifests at the same time. The night is part of the day; the new moon comes after the full moon. We should learn to see both as a unity and to keep a neutral point of balance, in order to be open to energies of a higher awareness.

In the great drama of the solar year the mutable airy sign of Gemini represents the process by which the duality manifests itself and the One exists as two. The experience received by man as unity gets divided, and man learns to discriminate between good and bad, between light and darkness, between permanent and transitory. The gift of discrimination is the keynote of this mainly mental sign. Gemini gives the message: Don’t prefer one thing to the other, because the world itself has been created by the duality of matter and spirit. Try to be in the centre in order to balance both sides and to experience the truth of duality in the world.

If our mind doesn’t have discrimination, it mixes up the whole life. Between the age of 14 and 21, the life cycle related to Gemini, man should learn to discriminate well. Not only the body and the senses should be trained, but also the rules of right speech should be introduced. In today’s education only 50% of that which makes up man in his totality are developed, the more subtle and sublime side of man remains ignored. Only the sight is given, but no wisdom. Sight without wisdom however cannot distinguish the right from the wrong. Besides knowledge education should therefore include the human being too. Thus man can see the importance of the education for objectivity, but also clearly realise its limitations and finally turn to the path of the soul.

Giving and Receiving

Our mind has two faces, an objective and a subjective one. Gemini represents the complementary pair of objectivity and subjectivity, of the negative and positive pole, of the female and male principle. Normally we mean with “male” and “female” the physical appearance of a man and a woman. In a higher and more comprehensive understanding male means that which gives from within and female that which receives. Thus each of us is man and woman at certain times: When energy gets distributed through us, we are connected with the male energies, and when we are receiving, we are with the female energies. According to the law of alternation we cannot keep on receiving without giving, and it is also unnatural to keep on distributing without receiving. Otherwise blockages are created, which hinder the exchange of energies. This not only applies to human relations, but also to our relations with the other kingdoms of nature. With a good balance between giving and receiving the energy can flow in the right way and real friendship and partnership can develop. The well-balanced harmony between the male and the female energy is called Ardhanari in the Indian literature and Adonai in the Jewish tradition. It is the Androgyne, half male and half female. In the East the pair of the First Androgyne is also called Shiva and Shakti, the Lord as subjectivity and the power of the Lord, Shakti, as objectivity.

On every plane of consciousness the energy of Gemini is active, when something from a higher centre is to be expressed. The two great stars of the constellation Gemini, Castor and Pollux, belong to the spiritual guides of all beings of our solar system and they are related to the expression of speech through the vocal chords. We can inwardly associate ourselves with them, if we want to discipline our language and realise wisdom in ourselves. We cannot continue to speak critically and only ‘blah blah’ and at the same time ask for deeper wisdom. With right words, which neither hurt nor deceive, we can create harmony and express fresh, living wisdom.

The two pillars of the sign of Gemini (♊) symbolise the gate of the vocal chords, through which, with the right use of the throat centre, the disciple walks to enter the inner temple. In Eastern symbolism they are compared with the two mill-stones which grind the flour of sound for the bread of thought. The seed which produces the flour represents the god-seed in man which bestows the divine bread to make him survive in the form of his span.

Good Will and the Plan

The throat centre mediates between the higher and the lower centres. From a planetary point of view humanity is the throat centre; it acts as a mediator between the lower kingdoms of nature and the higher, spiritual kingdoms. For this time cycle it is planned that humanity as a whole takes the first initiation. This is called the birth of consciousness in the heart. It means that man begins to think in terms of good will and to put the needs of the group, of the community before the individual needs. Christ is the soul consciousness in us and represents the soul consciousness of the planet also, while the humanity represents the personality consciousness. The hours of Gemini Full Moon provide a very good opportunity for orientation of the humanity towards the Christ consciousness and to receive into us the soul consciousness. The personality is permeated by the soul, so that the non-self merges with the self and duality is overcome. Then one existence reigns on all planes.

According to the wisdom teachings the Plan is expressed at Gemini Full Moon from higher circles through the World Teacher to mankind. While this is done on a higher plane through Lord Maitreya, it is Master Djwhal Khul who presides the energies of Gemini for the new groups, in order to externalise the Plan and to inform those who devote themselves to the work of good will. Information should lead to inner formation. If we prepare ourselves for the Gemini Full Moon at least for two days with a right alignment and not too much outer activity, we can get into contact with the high sources with sufficient inner peace. A deep respect towards the spiritual guides creates a connection and improves our ability to experience the energies of Gemini and to make the seed of the Plan sprout.

Part 3

Eternal Wisdom and Change

Our modern life is marked by a fast change of trends and fashions. The design of cars, clothes or ordinary objects keeps on changing, what is only just “in” is shortly afterwards “out” again. Our mind asks: “What comes next?” It always wants something new, and as soon as the latest thing is there, it says again: “And what comes now?” Cultures and languages change; in order to remain attractive for man the Eternal Wisdom is also presented time and again in different aspects and terminologies: The old wine has to be filled in new bottles. Wisdom however is age-old, nothing can be said which hasn’t been said already before. Only its expression changes. If today something totally new would be said, it wouldn’t be the truth. Our mind however is being led astray by the illusion of the new, it is not willing to follow that which has been given. It has the habit to receive, and we ask for new knowledge without applying it on ourselves and changing our behaviour. Thus we keep on outwitting ourselves and look for new books, new teachings and new ways. We don’t mind eating every day the same breakfast, but with the wisdom teachings we always would like to have something new.

The key to wisdom is a stable mind which doesn’t jump here and there and isn’t subject to too many changes. If the foundation isn’t solid, we cannot build on it. Master CVV expresses this mystically: “How can a statue stand stable if the foundation isn’t stable?” When we are connected in consciousness with the foundation, the universal consciousness, we can move about in the world without losing ourselves. A symbol for this is the pair of compasses, where one leg remains based in the centre and the other moves over the periphery. Also during walking one foot always remains firm on the ground, while the other moves. If we want to walk with both at the same time, we fall.

Gemini and Number 5

The zodiacal sign of Gemini is a mutable airy sign, it gives us the message of mutability on the basis of the immutable. Its message of free movement is symbolised by the numerical potency of number 5, while the numerical potency of 10 contains the unchanging part. Number 5 stands in the middle of the series of 1 – 9. It is equidistant to the higher and the lower numbers. 5 represents the fifth principle, our mind. When we are in this middle principle, we stand in the presence of the light of the soul as well as in objectivity. 5 connects Gemini also with the 5th house, Leo, standing for the soul. The symbol of Gemini (?) represents a gateway with two pillars, representing subjectivity and objectivity, which are seeming opposites. Some only want to live in subjectivity; they consider themselves to be very spiritual, but they can’t manage the outer life. Many others don’t realize the subjective existence and lose themselves in the outer world. Therefore 5 is also called the number of illusion, for the mind can easily get caught in delusions. Like this intellectual people often have a very high opinion of themselves and of their discrimination, however they understand very little about wisdom. If we use the potency of number 5 in the right way and learn the right powers of discernment, our mind becomes transparent and can realize the truth. Then we can live in subjectivity and at the same time be active in the outer world. We rise above the problems of the world and from there can help in peace our fellow human beings.

The sign of Gemini is especially connected with the development of group consciousness and with the master, who has introduced the new group work, Djwhal Khul. His work teaches to act intelligently according to the demands of time and while doing so to be as mobile as mercury. Master E.K. has illustrated this clearly in his book “Music of the Soul”. On the lower plane Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, causes diplomacy and a head for business. On a higher plane it gives us a super-personal way of dealing with opposites, and it helps us to use our abilities for the welfare of the greater whole in an intelligent and effective way. It is no accident that Master CVV chose May 29th as the day for group initiations, called May Call Day, which is in Gemini.

Transformation Work

Together with Aries and Taurus Gemini belongs to the more subjective signs of the zodiac. They are at the transition to Cancer, where the expression of the annual impulse enters into objectivity. The colour of Taurus is the deep blue of the sky, the colour of synthesis; the colour of Cancer is deep green, it represents the solid matter of the earth. Of Aquamarine, the colour of Gemini, it is said that it is a middle colour, equidistant to the blue of the sky and the green of the earth and creating the connection between heaven and earth: Aquamarine can bring down energies from higher circles and transform the lower centres, so that they can receive more light. Therefore the colour is regarded as a good means for healing work.

On the physical plane Gemini rules over the vocal chords, on the vital plane over the pulsation of respiration. On the mental plane the sign governs the thoughts. We utter our thoughts through speech, with the help of the vocal chords and the air. For speaking and breathing we use our throat centre called “visuddhi” in Sanskrit. “Suddhi” means purity and “visuddhi“ utmost purity. In order to purify the throat centre we have to regulate our speech and regularly contemplate on breath. Rhythmical singing of mantras purifies the lower centres, the throat centre becomes radiant and our speech magnetic. In the East mantras are often sung for hours for purification.

The Gateway into the Ether

The throat centre is the most important centre for humanity; through the throat the soul bound in the lower centres is lifted up and liberated. The throat centre is the gateway into the ether of space, the fifth element also called Akasha. Akasha has the quality of sound and vibrates like a colourful ocean of energies. We can perceive but not see air. We cannot perceive ether, the subtle world, with the senses, but experience it with proper preparation. If we focus our mind for a prolonged period of time on the inhalation and exhalation and bring ourselves to an identification with the pulsation, mind and respiration become quiet and we penetrate beyond our body into the whole of the surrounding ether of space.

Once a year a gateway opens through which we can enter into the more subtle planes of existence and establish contact with the lofty beings working in the ether: At Gemini Full Moon the Masters of Wisdom distribute the new energies of the solar year to humanity. The soul or Christ consciousness of the planet pours an impulse of life and wisdom over the entire planet and offers us a special occasion to orient ourselves to the soul or Christ consciousness in us. For a better alignment we shouldn’t have much objective activity during this time and to keep a very regular rhythm with respect to work, food and sleep. We can only receive the high energies, if we are inclusive, i.e. not reject other people and forms of living, but try to accept and include them. Then we become more and more conscious of the needs of others and of the community. Thus we receive fresh power from the subtle world to be able to perform the work of good will with a new impetus in the coming months.

Part 4

The Cosmic Messenger

The Eastern wisdom teachings speak of a great initiate by the name of Narada and call him the mind-born son of the creator. He is one of the five Kumaras – four rule over the cosmic, solar and planetary planes of creation, and the fifth, Narada, moves everywhere and conveys energies and messages between the different planes. Narada is the great messenger; he is also called the cosmic Mercury and is identified with the archangel Michael. He belongs to the beings who cannot be localized; for them there is neither down nor up, for they don’t care about the planes. For them only the Light exists. Wherever these beings are present, they are present as I AM. When we think of them, they are there, even in the so-called lowest worlds. They have expanded themselves as an active subjectivity into objectivity.

Narada always carries with him a veena, a seven-stringed musical instrument, which has three lower and three higher strings and a thick one in the middle – symbol of the seven planes of creation. Narada can play on all seven strings, i.e. work with sound or vibration on all planes in order to stimulate the divine plan. In the Secret Doctrine Mme Blavatsky writes in detail about Narada and his task. The descriptions of Narada in the scriptures are considered to be contradictory by the scholars and are not understood. For on the one hand he appears to be the Master of the Devas, the divine intelligences of Nature, and at the same time as a trouble maker who enjoys creating problems. However, this is only a symbolic presentation of the phenomenon of speech. Many conflicts arise out of differences of opinion and of an irresponsible use of speech. In so far as we make a baser use of speech, we get into conflicts. When Narada uses the lower strings of his veena, he gives rise to problems for people; with the higher ones he creates harmony in creation. We have a great responsibility to be careful with the Word.

Transformation of the Mind

Right speech can heal and uplift, it transforms the lower into the higher. Mercury, the alchemist and lord of Gemini, guides this process of transformation. Yes, Mercury is the power by which we can attain the higher planes of existence. Thus symbolically speaking lead is made to gold. When our mind gets rid of lower influences, it transforms itself into Buddhi, the power of discrimination, and then handles the opposites in an impersonal way. Mercury is a neutral planet; it has no value of itself, but always transmits the energy of the planet near to it. In the month of Gemini Mercury works with greater power. The Masters of Wisdom use this transformative influence in order initiate people into the kingdom of God. That is why this month and particularly the 29th of May is considered to be a time of group initiation. Group consciousness means that the limits between the individuals disappear and the One Soul comes to the fore.

As long as we still live in the world of right and wrong and have the feeling that we are right and others are wrong, we still stand in front of the door to the inner temple. Light and darkness, good and bad, left and right are the two pillars of the gate of the sign of Gemini ?. We are always running against one of the pillars and cannot take the path through the middle. It is the nature of Gemini to grasp everything in pairs of opposites, but they can also lead us to the underlying unity. Especially the full moon of Gemini helps us to realize the limitations of our own concepts and to transcend them.

Respiration and Pulsation

The rate with which we produce thoughts is in proportion to our breaths. When we are nervous or anxious, we have many thoughts and breathe more quickly. In a state of relaxation we breathe more slowly. The slower is the rate of respiration, the slower is our thought production. When we direct our mind to respiration, respiration and mind calm down mutually. When we are in a state, in which we have no thoughts, we do not breathe any more. We do not bring respiration or thoughts to a stop, but respiration and thoughts pause by themselves. They withdraw into the subtle rhythm of pulsation, since we have withdrawn into the inner chamber. From that centre inside and outside are one, we are absorbed into the entirety of the oceanic consciousness. Every master of wisdom lives in this source of subtle pulsation and comes from there to the outside if required. Even when he goes out, this does not disturb the rhythm of his system.

The sound of Gemini is “So”, the mantram of inhalation, it is located in the throat centre. “Ham”, the mantram for exhalation, is the sound for Aries, since it utters forth the whole year. This sound is located in the head centre. “Ham-So” or “Hamsa” means “I am THAT” or also “the Great Swan”. We ourselves are the swan swimming in the pure waters of the ether. Symbolically the swan is the bird capable of separating milk from water, and “milk” here means the eternal principle and “water” the transitory, and the swan represents discrimination. This means, when we live in a detached attitude, we can distinguish between the eternal values and the temporary, and we will more und more turn to the former and liberate ourselves from the latter. The visualisation of a radiant white swan in the blue ocean of eternity, with no other symbol or object around, would lead to deep meditation. “So-ham”, the twin-sound of respiration, is the mantram which leads the disciple in his path of ascent from the throat centre to the head centre, from Gemini to Aries. It means “THAT am I” and is the invocation of the Heavenly Man by the man of earth. The consonants “S” and “H” in the mantram “Soham” are called the male and the female principles, represented by Gemini. When these consonants fall away and both syllables fuse, only the holy word OM remains.

Gemini Full Moon

Gemini full moo has a special meaning for those people who are in rapport with Spiritual Hierarchy. They come together at the full moon hours and unite on the subtle plane with the Masters of Wisdom through contemplation. In silence they receive the plan for the year as a seed thought and work on it in the following months, without much talking about it, because too much speaking leads to a loss of alignment. Gemini full moon is also called the full moon of humanity. It is now headed by Master Djwhal Khul, as it had been in earlier times by Lord Maitreya or the Christ and as many traditionally still believe out of an imprisonment of thought. Master Djwhal Khul transmits the ancient wisdom through different languages and brings it into a network of groups in order to keep it available for people in all parts of the planet. Recollecting the presence of the Great Ones at this full moon will enables us to better realize the energy of Gemini, because they are the helping guides.
